Meaningful Living

Many people live busy lives and they chase after their ambitions, they achieve their goals and then they reach old age and they feel that life has no meaning, it has no sense any more , and they sit around and they wait on death. Others just live meaningless lives.

The preacher wrote in Ecclesiastes 1:12 “I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven: it is a sore travail that God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith. 14I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.15That which is crooked cannot be made straight; and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.

I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I have gotten me great wisdom above all that were before me in Jerusalem; yea, my heart hath had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. 17And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also was a striving after wind. 18For in much wisdom is much grief; and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”

And so many people sit in their old age and they wait for the days to pass. They feel that their life has no meaning any more. The reason for that is that they never had any meaning in their lives to start with. If we follow Jesus Christ, then we have meaning to our lives right until the very end.

I read the words of Jesus in Mark 8:34 "And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36“FOR WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD, AND FORFEIT HIS SOUL? 37“For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

If we do not live for and with Jesus Christ every day, if we are not guided by the Holy Spirit, then there is no purpose to our lives because we are heading to destruction, our life is a dead end.

We need to follow Jesus Christ, be led by the Holy Spirit and then we will be fruitful until the very end.

The psalmist king David wrote in  Psalm 92:12 “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13Those who be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14They shall still BRING FORTH FRUIT IN OLD AGE;”

If we are planted in Christ, if we are part of His kingdom, then we become more fruitful as we grow older, we become more homed and skilled to do the work that He called us to do. we become more knowledgeable, filled with the Spirit of God, if we stay with Him. we do not just wither and die, we bear fruit until the old age, until Jesus comes to take us home.

If we do not keep on bearing fruit until the very end then our life is meaningless., useless. Are we living a meaningful life? Is there purpose to our life? Are we building the kingdom of God? Without Jesus Christ we can do nothing but if we stay IN HIM every day is Jesus' day. Every day has purpose!

Do you have purpose in your life? Are you following Jesus Christ every day?

May Jesus bless you.
